The Romanian Academic Society has participated at the Regional Conference on Fighting Corruption in Education in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, 24-25 November 2011, Bratislava. Our contribution at the conference was made through presenting and debating the project “The Coalition for Clean Universities”, a project that was very appreciated by the participants and was included in the examples of good practice for stimulating the transparency and integrity in the higher education system. The conference is part of the UNDP Global Thematic Programme on Anti-Corruption for Development Effectiveness in the public service sectors, especially regarding the three case studies launched in 2011: education, health and water. The institutions involved in the education field are the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Directorate for Education of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (EDU-OECD) and the International Institute for Education Planning from UNESCO (IIEP-UNESCO). Apart from the international organizations, there were representatives from the Education Ministries from Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine, Austria, Azerbaijan and Montenegro. The conference was focused on three sessions:

– the main elements to understand and contextualize the issues of corruption in education

– assessing and identifying the risks and loopholes at the systemic level towards the design of effective policies and regulations

– designing responses for intervening from the strategic/policy level to the institutional one; presenting ideas and best practices for programming activity of development organizations
