Hotnews – SAR: Energy Regulator’s Status Should Be Similar to Central Bank

The Romanian Academic Society (SAR) suggests that the National Authority for Regulating the Energy Field (ANRE) should be granted a status comparable to that of the Central Bank. Specifically, it should answer before Parliament, submit its yearly report for Parliament approval and have its leadership changed only if the activity report is rejected. “In order for the regulator to attain true independence, its leaders must be named by Parliament, for the duration of a pre-determined mandate, on competence criteria, and replacing them mid-mandate should be clearly based on a lack of performance. The regulator must also be allowed its own revenue from licenses, in order to have an autonomous budget,” states a SAR report on ANRE activity.
