Romania has joined the EU in January 2007, but its European agenda is still work in progress. We don’t know for sure what exactly we need to do in the near future, beyond setting up the institutional system required for managing the EU funds.
We never discussed what substantial changes are needed at home in order to function properly as a member of the wider club. And this is mostly because domestic, short-term politics has always occupied most of our time, and as a result we never had the patience to identify the sources of our structural problems.
