On August 27-30, the Romanian Academic Society organized the “Clean Romania” Summer School. The event took place in Predeal and brought together collaborators of the romaniacurata.ro platform, journalists, activists and representatives of the civil society.
Among the participants was Alina Mungiu Pippidi, president of RAS; Simona Popescu, coordinator of the Alliance for a Clean Romania; Harald Koht, Norwegian university professor; Claudiu Craciun, lecturer at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration; Mihai Gotiu, editor of the romaniacurata.ro platform; Peter Eckstein Kovacs, attorney; Aurora Liiceanu, RAS board member; Sorin Fusea, expert; Bogdan Chiriţoiu, president of the Competition Council. Also attending were 44 journalists, Clean Romania volunteers, representatives of student and civic organizations, as well as RAS experts.
Each guest had the opportunity to speak about what brings them closer to civic activism and about their future projects. Presentations were held, detailing the monitoring work and journalistic investigations of RAS volunteers. Lecturer Claudiu Craciun spoke about the capacity of local civil society at the grassroots level, while Mihai Gotiu presented the Alliance for a Clean Romania platform. Worth noting is also the contribution from Aurora Liiceanu, who spoke about mobilizing civil society for a more efficient reaction in cases of state abuse, as well as the input from professor Harald Koht, who shared some of the experience of Norwegian civil society.
