The main objective of START is to facilitate the access of disabled people on the labor market. The project aims towards creating a network of three Regional Centers for Social Inclusion and Employment of disabled people, which would offer high quality services in motivating, counseling, mediating, making accessible and offering support pre and post – employment.
As one of the partners in this project, SAR will run a comprehensive research on the motivations and the obstacles that disabled people face in finding a job. The results of this research will be used by Motivation Romania in planning its activities related to employment counseling for disabled people, and by governmental agencies for elaborating policies in the field.
The research run by SAR and Motivation Romania enjoys the support of the National Authority for Disabled People. The first part of the study employs a national level survey among people with different degrees of handicap. The sample has 1600 respondents and it is statistically significant at national level. The second part of the study will employ qualitative research methods, including interviews with employers, the heads of the General Departments for Social Assistance and Child Protection, focus groups and case studies.
Largely speaking, the activities included in this project aim towards developing the ability of disabled people to integrate on the labor market and the capacity of specialist to offer targeted services for those who want to get a job. The project will run for three years and will contribute to the improvement of the institutional setup, the quality and the availability of models of services targeted to disabled people.
